Rotary is a worldwide organization of business and professional leaders that provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and helps build goodwill and peace in the world. Approximately 1.2 million Rotarians belong to more than 32,000 clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. 

Our club was founded in 1965 as the Spring Valley Rotary Club.  The first major project undertaken by the club was being the sponsor of the Miss Spring Valley Pageant and was continued until 1981.  Monte Vista High School was officially adopted in 1966 and since then we have contributed to the school annually with scholarships and sponsoring students to attend the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference.  As our area has grown our projects have grown to include the Rancho San Diego area.  We are a founding sponsor of the “Heritage of the Americas Museum” at Cuyamaca College.  We have participated in the Adopt-A-Highway program to clean up trash along highway 94.  We provided assistance for a Sheriff K-9 officer to take his dog to Denmark for advanced training.  We provided concrete benches and tables for the Cuyamaca College campus and we supported the creation of the Water Conservation Garden.  We have also supported the Rancho San Diego public library.

Internationally we have partnered with the Tecate Rotary club to build a school for handicapped children and have also supplied them with a wheelchair accessible school bus.  We have sponsored students to study abroad through the Rotary Student Exchange program and provided for cleft lip and palate surgery on children in Baja, California.  Most importantly we have worked to eradicate polio around the world through the Polio Plus Fund.

Funds raised through the wine and food festival will be used for ongoing projects of Rancho San Diego/Spring Valley Rotary club and the Water Conservation Garden at Cuyamaca College.
